The City of Arroyo Grande has historically provided child care
Due to COVID-19, in-person school education is not feasible
In response and partnership with Lucia Mar School District (LMUSD), the Recreation Services Department developed the ‘Enrichment Lab’ program
Request for a new fee based on structure of program

On July 21, 2020, staff met with LMUSD Superintendent and Administrative staff
Along with other child care agencies, AG Recreation was asked to coordinate efforts and provide child care
Waiver of facility fees and increased custodial services
Potential to request additional classrooms as need arises

Enrichment Lab Structure
California State Licensed Program at both school sites
Open Monday-Friday, 7am-6pm
Kindergarten-6th Grades
1:14 ratio of staff to children PLUS one additional staff that floats between 2 classrooms
Enrichment and recreational activities outside of school schedule: music, reading, outside play, exercise, games (all socially distanced, CDC guidelines followed!)

Additional Funding Sources
The City of Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department is currently seeking additional funding sources to provide scholarships for local families:

Current Status of Enrichment Labs
Opened on August 14th for the first day of school
32 participants enrolled (18 @ Ocean View and 14 @ Branch Elementary Schools); at 45% capacity
As additional staff are hired, program can shift to also accommodate ½ day care and part-time care
Learning every day! Continuously collaborating with parents, administrators and partner agencies
