A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OT ARROYO GRANDE APPROVING PLANNED
SIGN PROGR�M CASE NO. 95-116 FOR BUILDING "E",
APPLIED FOR BY TIIE VONS COMPANI�S, INC., AT 1650
GRAND AVENUE �
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission of the City of Arroyo Grande has considered an
application Uy the Vons Companies, Inc., for a Planned Sign Program for Building "E" at 1650
Grand Avenue in Ehe General Commercial District; and
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has found that this planned sign program is
consistent with the General Plan and the Environmental Documents associated therewith; and
WH�REA5, the Planning Commission has reviewed this project in compliance with tt�e
California Environmer�tal Quality Act (CEQA) and has determined that tt�e project is
categorically exempt per CEQA Guidelines Section 15311; and '
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission finds, after due study, deliberation and public
hearing, the following circumstances exist:
1. The proposed signs are consistent with the goals, objectives, policies and programs of
the Arroyo Grande General Plan. The proposed signs balance the need for identification
of businesses witli the rural small town character of the community.
2. The proposed signs conform to applicable development standards and provisions of the
Development Code and will not be detrimental to the public health, safety or welfare.
3. The physical location or placement of the signs are compatible witlt the suFrounding
neighboihood and do not pose a safety risk.
NOW, TH�REFORC, B� IT R�SOLVED that the Planning Commission of the City
of Arroyo Grande hereby approves said Planned Sign Program, subject to the following
conditions of approval:
General Conditions
1. The applicant shall ascertain and comply with all State, County and City requirements
as are applicable to tl�is project.
2. This application shall automatically expire on June 6, 1997 unless a building permit is
issued and substantial construction is commenced and diligently pursued toward
completion, or a Certificate of Occupancy is issued. Thirty (30) days prior to the
expiration of the approval, the applicant may apply to the Planning Commission for an
extension of one (1) year from tl�e original date of expiratioii.
3. Development sl�all occur in substantial conformance with the plans presented to the
Planning Commission at the meeting of June 6, 1995 and marked "Exhibit A" except as
specifically modified'herein by the following conditions.

4. The applicant s}iall agree to defend at his/l�er sole expense any action brought against tlte
City, its agents, officers, or employees because of the issuance of said approval, or in
the alternative, to relinquish such approval. The applicant shall reimburse the City, its
agents, officers, or employers, for any court costs and attorney's fee's which the City,
its agents, officers or employees may be required by a court to pay as a result of such
action. The City may, at its sole discretion, participate at its own expense in the defense
of any such action but such participation shall not relieve applicant of his/lter obligations
under this condition. �
5. The clevelopment sliall comply witl� all conditions of approval of Conditional Use Permit
Case No. 95-537.

6. Building "E" signage should include pedestrian level signs mounted on "L" brackets on
the building wall. '
Building Depart.ment Conditions
7. Prior to installation of signs, tl�e applicant, tenant or other occupant shail submit plans
to the Building Department, apply for permits and pay appropriate fees for the signs. �
