CC 2013-03-26_08.d. Cancellation of April 9th MeetingMEMORANDUM TO: CITY COUNCIL FROM: STEVEN ADAMS, CITY MANAGER ,. SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF CANCELLATION OF APRIL 9, 2013 CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE:MARCH 26, 2013 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the Council cancel the regularly scheduled Council meeting of April 9, 2013. IMPACT ON FINANCIAL AND PERSONNEL RESOURCES: There is some cost savings due to reduced staff time, consultant costs and related supplies associated with meeting preparation and cable casting. BACKGROUND: The Five Cities Fire Authority recently received approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to conduct an Integrated Emergency Management Class at the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsbrug, Maryland from April 8 1 h through the 11th. The exercise will include 75 people from agencies throughout San Luis Obispo County, including Mayor Pro Tern Costello and most of the City's department directors. Mayor Ferrara has also indicated he will be out of town during that week. ANALYSIS OF ISSUES: The number of staff and council members absent for the regularly scheduled meeting on April 9, 2013 will result in minimal agenda items. Therefore, staff recommends the meeting be cancelled. Item 8.d. - Page 1 CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION OF CANCELLATION OF APRIL 9, 2013 CITY COUNCIL MEETING MARCH 26, 2013 PAGE 2 OF 2 ALTERNATIVES: The following alternatives are provided for the Council's consideration: 1. Cancel the April 9, 2013 City Council Meeting; 2. Do not cancel the meeting; or 3. Provide other direction to staff. ADVANTAGES: Cancelling the April 9, 2013 meeting will eliminate costs, as well as staff and Council Members' time, required to conduct a meeting where minimal business would be accomplished. DISADVANTAGES: Cancellation of a regular meeting may result in heavier agendas at the following meetings. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW: No environmental review is required for this item. PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND COMMENTS: The agenda was posted in front of City Hall on Thursday, March 21, 2013 and on the City's website on Friday, March 22, 2013. Item 8.d. - Page 2
