CC 2013-10-22_08.e. Voting Delegate - National League of CitiesMEMORANDUM
TO: CITY COUNCIL
FROM: STEVEN ADAMS, CITY MANAGER fo
SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF APPOINTMENT OF VOTING DELEGATE FOR
THE NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING
DATE: OCTOBER 22, 2013
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended the City Council appoint Mayor Ferrara as the voting delegate for the
National League of Cities Annual Business Meeting.
IMPACT ON FINANCIAL AND PERSONNEL RESOURCES:
The only costs associated with this action are costs for attendance at the Congress of
Cities, which will be primarily reimbursed by the League of California Cities.
BACKGROUND:
The City recently joined the National League of Cities. Their Annual'" Business Meeting
will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013, at the conclusion of the Congress of
Cities and Exposition in Seattle, Washington. As a direct member city, Arroyo Grande
is entitled to vote at this meeting.
ANAL VIS OF ISSUES:
To be eligible to cast a city's vote, a voting delegate must be officially designated by the
city. As Vice President of the League of California Cities, Mayor Ferrara will be
attending the Congress. Therefore, it provides an opportunity for the City to be involved
in the voting process.
ALTERNATIVES:
The following alternatives are provided for the Council's consideration:
1) Appoint Mayor Ferrara as the voting delegate;
2) Do not appoint Mayor Ferrara as the voting delegate; or
3) Provide staff with other direction.
