HONORARY PROCLAMATION DECLARING
APRIL 2014 AS "MONTH OF THE CHILD" and
"CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH"
"CHILDREN'S OPPORTUNITIES -OUR RESPONSIBILITIES"
WHEREAS, Saturday, April 12, 2014, will commemorate the "Day of the Child"
celebration during Children's Day In the Plaza at the San Luis Obispo Mission Plaza, a day
where children and families can play, leam and interact with the agencies and programs
providing services throughout the County; and
WHEREAS, Month of the Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to
recognize opportunities for children, and to commit ourselves to ensuring that each and every
child experiences a high quality environment -at home, at child care, at school and in the
community -that will promote their optimal development; and
WHEREAS, every moment in a child's life is an opportunity for that child to leam, and
that the quality of these experiences may determine whether a child succeeds in school and
in life, and that all children need caring and loving adults in their lives; and
WHEREAS, this month's activities will provide an opportunity to acknowledge youth,
early care and education programs and their dedicated staff, and to raise the awareness of
the community, employers and elected officials of the need to improve the quality.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Tony Ferrara, Mayor of the City of
Arroyo Grande, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby proclaim April 2014 as "Month of
the Child" and "Child Abuse Prevention Month", and April 12, 2014 as "Day of the Child," and
may we remember to listen to and watch the children around us, to have patience, and to
allow them the opportunity to enjoy the joumey of childhood.
