m MEMORANDUM
* JULY 10. 1911
C4<<FORN%P
TO: CITY COUNCIL
FROM: GEOFF ENGLISH, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS
SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION TO DECLARE SURPLUS PROPERTY
DATE: MARCH 10, 2015
RECOMMENDTION:
It is recommended the Council adopt a Resolution declaring a pick-up truck as surplus
and authorizing its sale or disposal.
IMPACT ON FINANCIAL AND PERSONNEL RESOURCES:
Upon sale of a surplus utility truck, the City could realize a small amount of revenue up
to $1,000. Additionally, a minor amount of staff time will be necessary to assist with
processing the necessary documentation to sell the vehicle through a surplus auction
house.
BACKGROUND:
The City previously purchased a 1997 Ford Ranger pick-up truck (P-16) for use by the
Public Works Department. The vehicle has been used for a variety of maintenance
purposes, most recently for field maintenance activities at the Soto Sports Complex.
The Police Department recently purchased a new service truck to replace a 2005
Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck. The Police Department no longer has use for this
vehicle and has offered it to the Public Works Department.
ANALYSIS OF ISSUES:
The 1997 Ford Ranger pick-up truck used by the Public Works Department is older and
has more miles than the 2005 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck offered by the Police
Department. As a result, the Public Works Department will no longer need the 1997
Ford Ranger pick-up truck (P-16) and is requesting that the City Council authorize the
disposition of this vehicle. The sale of this surplus vehicle will generate some revenue.
