CONSIDERATION OF PRELIMINARY
APPROVAL OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
BLOCK GRANT (CDBG) PROJECTS FOR YEAR
2016

Background
•Federal program that distributes funds to cities and
counties.
•Allocation of CDBG funds can be made for a variety
of projects as long as one of the following National
Objectives are met:
–Benefit low-and moderate-income persons;
–Aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or
blight; or
–Address urgent community development needs
that pose a serious or immediate threat to public
health or welfare.

2016 Grant
•The County has estimated that $75,512 in
CDBG funds will be available to the City in
the fall of 2016 (2% increase from 2015)
•The County will help the City administer the
program.

Public Facilities
•$60,410 to improve ADA accessibility for the
Woman’s Club Center.
•Specific Improvements include:
–Leveling the patio area;
–Replacing 3 doors to allow for wheelchair access;
–Constructing ADA compliant van-accessible
parking spaces in the parking lot; and
–Providing ADA compliant pathways, including
railing, signs and other necessary improvements.

Last year, the City received 12 applications

application is December 11, 2015.

Recommendation
•It is recommended the City Council provide
preliminary approval of proposed projects to
be funded with the City’s allocation of CDBG
funds for Year 2016 as presented.
