RESOLUTION NO. 2305
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE DESIGNATING
THE OLD "ODD FELLOWS HALL" AS AN HISTORICAL
LANDMARK OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE
WHEREAS, the Arroyo Grande Odd Fellows Lodge was chartered on
May 9, 1877; and
WHEREAS, the Arroyo Grande Odd Fellows Hall was constructed
of yellow stone, quarried locally, in 1902; and
WHEREAS, the Hall was completed and dedicated in January,
1903; and
WHEREAS, the Hall housed a number of the first businesses,
among them the first funeral parlor, operated by N. G. English; and
WHEREAS, for 117 years, until its demise in 1984, the Arroyo
Grande Odd Fellows Lodge served the citizens of Arroyo Grande
fraternally; and
WHEREAS, the Hall served as a community center for many of the
87 years it has been in use; and
WHEREAS, the Hall is now known as the South County Historical
society Hall and is to be used as a museum to benefit the community
by preserving our historical heritage; and
WHEREAS, the South County Historical Society requests that the
city Council of Arroyo Grande consider the designation of the Odd
Fellows Hall, now known as the South county Historical Society
Hall, as an Historical Landmark of the City of Arroyo Grande.
On motion of Council Member Olsen, seconded by Council Member
Dougall, and on the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Olsen, Dougall, smith, Moots and Mayor
Millis
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 11 th day of
April, 1989,
