Minutes 1953-07-01 Arroyo Grande, California July 1, 1953 The City Council met in regular session xith M~yor Simpson presiding. Upon roll call Councilmen Kerr, Kirkpatrick, Burt and Sturges reported present. The minutes of the previous.regular and ad~ourned meeting were read and approved as read. Communications were read and placed on file. Councilman Kirkpatrick requested permission to leave the state and a motion was made by Councilman Kerr, seconded by Councilman Sturges to grant the request. Mr. Anderson's letter to the Division of Highways on plAnting of the islands wa,s approved by the Council. The easement for the 8 in. waier line which ~ad been prepared by Mr. Hzrris was approved by the Council. Councilman Kerr reported on the meeting on Hi~h~ays in San Luis Obispo which he and I~Ir. Anderson attended. A letter from Daniel, Man~}, Johnson and Mendenhall reporting on their inspection of the bridge was read and discussed also a petition with llt6 names ; i asking the bridge be repaired and reopened was placed on file. Mr. Richard Miller 1 representing Daniel, Mann, Johnson and Mendenhall reported it would cost about $15,000 to build a bridge to replace the sWinging bridge. Couneilman Kerr ma.de i ~ , a motion to hold the matter over to the next Council meeting so they could give the matter further study. The motion was seconded by ~ouncilman Burt and the motion carried. i'9ayor Simpson asked for the report on the Assessment District and Chief Pqize ' asked tc be excused if they were not going to work on the budget and the Chief wAS a~ given permission to leave. Nir. I~iller and Mr. Zhompson then explained the report on the Improvement District and Went over the report with the City Council s~nd they agreed to be ~ present at an informal meeting July 22nd when property owners could ask questions ; and discuss the improvements. Mr. Anderson ~ras instructed to write another letter to the Division of 'i { Highways in regard to the curb on the corner of Al1en Street and 101 Highway. a ~1'he letter from the ~oard of Fire Underwriters was discussed and on motion ' of Councilman Sturges and seconded by Councilman Kerr a letter was to be written ~ ~ ~ requesting the Board of Fire Underwriters to make a reinspection oP the City for classification. ~ ~ 6 ~ ~ 262 ~ ~ ~ It Was agreed to ask Mr. Harris for a copy of th~ letter he xrote Mr. Lad?~ig. On motion of Councila~n Burt and seconded by Councilman Kerr, Mayor Sin~son xaa authori$ed to sign t?he release on the Hs~rtford Insurance Policy. 'Hills against the General Fund for ~38l~7.l~5, the water Fund for ~3313.50 and the Water Deposit Fund for ~72.OQ were s~udited, approved and ordered psrid. On motion of Councilraan Stnrges and aeconded ~y ~ouncilmon Kerr uid'`by unaninwus vote transfer of wouchers 50 through 60 xas authorised. I~ The letter from Hal Ladwig asking for s~n extension of ti~ on the removai of buildings from his property was read a~nd diacussed and it was agreed to tsk+e , ' ~ care of the matter at the July 15th meeting when 1~Ir. Harria the City Attorney ' ~ would be present. ~ The purpose of the ~neeting was to xorkon the new budget. Councilman Burt said he xould second the motion providing the ~ouncil Would agree to aending Richardson to school if the Chief could get him in thia year and the money Was available.
