SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF COUNCIL APPOINTMENT TO DOWNTOWN
PARKING ADVISORY BOARD

RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended by Council Member Caren Ray that the City Council approve the
appointment of Ron Meier to the Downtown Parking Advisory Board.
IMPACT TO FINANCIAL AND PERSONNEL RESOURCES:
There is no fiscal impact from this action.
BACKGROUND:
City Council policy sets forth appointment procedures for the City’s Commissions,
Boards and Committees. Policy No. 4 of the City Council Operations Manual, Section 3
states that the Mayor and each member of the Council shall recommend a
representative to the various Commissions, Boards and Committees, subject to the
approval by a majority vote of the Council. All Commission and Board Members serve
at the pleasure of the Council.
ANALYSIS OF ISSUES:
A vacancy has occurred on the Downtown Parking Advisory Board due to term
expiration, effective January 31, 2017. The new term for the seat expires January 31,
2021. Members of the Downtown Parking Advisory Board are not required to live in the
City of Arroyo Grande but are required to own a business in the Village within the
Parking and Business Improvement Area. Ron Meier, owner of Mason Bar & Kitchen,
has submitted an application and is recommended for appointment by Council Member
Ray.
ALTERNATIVES:
The following alternatives are provided for the Council’s consideration:
1. Approve Council Member Ray’s recommended appointment;
2. Do not approve the recommended appointment; or
3. Provide direction to staff.

Approval of this recommended appointment will provide for a full membership of the
Downtown Parking Advisory Board.

No environmental review is required for this item.
PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND COMMENTS:
The Agenda was posted at City Hall and on the City’s website in accordance with
Government Code Section 54954.2.

to the village and I am very interested in helping it achieve its maximum potential as a destination
for visitors while and maintaining its unique charm for the local population.

and visibility of the current parking lots, the feasibility of adding more parking to the village if possible,
and giving input to the planning commision and city on the impacts of new businesses and changes
of building use on the parking dynamic in the downtown.
