Water mains flushing program - Completed
November 27th through December 1st:
City crews flushed water mains.
Last flush done June 2013 - usually completed twice per year.
Helps assure your drinking water continues to meet or exceed all State and Federal Standards.
In August 2017 this project was approved and
Bid was awarded to R. Burke Corp. on September 12, 2017

Start of flushing at the blow off end of a water main:
diffuser takes the water and softens the flow (reduces the pressure)
ascorbic acid/vitamin C pellets removes chlorine so it clear to go
into storm drains

Still at beginning and increasing flow opening valve to fully open position

Flushing continued these are timed flushes at 500 per minute flow, out of 2 inch line. Force of the water flow cleans the pipe system.
Water in this photo is still not clear:
samples taken
when sample is visibly clear free of sediment, no color etc. move to next flushing location
samples average time = 4 -5 minutes until clean

Water is clear now, duration of flushing recorded and valve
to closed position – this process is done at 130 locations around the City

Every Tuesday - 5 samples taken for bacteriological testing - from 18 dedicated samples taps
