A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ARROYO GRANDE APPROVING A SIDE LETTER OF
AGREEMENT TO THE ARROYO GRANDE POLICE
OFFICERS' MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Arroyo Grande ("City") deems it in the best
interest of the City to approve a side letter of agreement amending terms of the Arroyo
Grande Police Officers' Association current Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to
reimbursement of education expenses, as hereinafter provided.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arroyo Grande
that:
An amendment to the Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU") with the Arroyo
Grande Police Officers' Association ("AGPOA") is hereby approved, a copy of said
amendment entitled "Side Letter of Agreement, Modification to Memorandum of
Understanding" is attached hereto, marked Exhibit "A", and incorporated herein by
this reference.
2. This Resolution shall become effective on December 1, 2008.
On motion of Council Member Costello, seconded by Council Member Guthrie, and on the
following roll call vote, to wit:

SIDE LETTER OF AGREEMENT
MODIFICATION TO MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
For valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged,
the City of Arroyo Grande ("City") and the Arroyo Grande Police Officers' Association
("Union") do hereby agree to modify the current Memorandum of Understanding ("MOU")
between the City and the Union as follows:
ARTICLE 27. EDUCATION
The City shall pay tuition and book fees for classes leading to an undergraduate or
graduate degree in ajob-related field at an accredited school/college for all unit employees
upon approval of the Police Chief. Reimbursement for educational costs may also be
granted for employees participating in non-collegiate job-related continuing
education/training courses/programs. Payments for all classes must be approved by the
Police Chief in advance. Payments to employees will be made after the employee
provides evidence of completion of the course/program with a grade C or better or the
course/program is passed when apass/fail grading system is utilized. Reimbursement
shall be limited to $1,200 per fiscal year and shall apply only to expenses for classes
completed during the fiscal year in which the reimbursement is being requested. No
carryovers are allowed. The following employees shall be eligible to receive cone-time
payout up to $500 in FY 2008-09 for reimbursement of tuition and book fees for courses
completed prior to July 1, 2008:

Dan Langstaff
Michael Smiley
Reimbursement to these employees in FY 2008-09 shall remain limited to a maximum of
$1,200, including the $500 one-time payout.
