A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ARROYO GRANDE RECOGNIZING THE SERVICE
RETIREMENT OF ARROYO GRANDE POLICE
DEPARTMENT POLICE SERVICE DOG "2AK" AND
PROVIDING FOR THE TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF
"ZAK" TO SENIOR POLICE OFFICER KIMBERELY MARTIN
WHEREAS, Zak Alois Anrebri, is an 8 % year-old German Shepherd from the Czech
Republic handled by his partner Senior Police Officer Kimberely Martin as a police
service dog for the Arroyo Grande Police Department since April 2004; and
WHEREAS, Zak and Senior Police Officer Kimberely Martin completed 160 hours of
California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Commission cert~ed basic
handler training in April 2004, 160 hours of POST Commission certified basic narcotics
detection training in October 2004 and 40 hours of POST commission certified training
in basic tracking; and
WHEREAS, Zak and Senior Police Officer Kimberely Martin completed ten (10) hours
training in patrol service and four (4) hours training in narcotics detection on a monthly
basis since April 2004 when they began to work as a team for the Arroyo Grande Police
Department; and
WHEREAS, Zak and Senior Police Officer Kimberely Martin have worked together for
over five (5) years as a professional team to search for, track and apprehend suspects,
many of whom endangered the safety of our community and other Police Officers;
WHEREAS, Zak and Senior Police Officer Kimberely Martin have worked together for
over (5) years as a professional team to search for and locate illegal narcotics that
endangered the safety of our community, especially our youth; and
WHEREAS, Zak and Senior Police Officer Kimberely Martin have worked together for
over five (5) years as a professional team at community and civic group events to build
and maintain an effective partnership between the community and the Police
Department;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Arroyo
Grande hereby:
1. Expresses its sincere appreciation to Zak and Senior Police Officer Kimberely
Martin for over five (5) years of dedicated service to the Arroyo Grande
community as a police service dog team; and

2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute an agreement in a form
acceptable to the City Attorney providing for the transfer to Senior Police
Officer Kimberely Martin her acceptance of future ownership of, responsibility
and liability for the police service dog "Zak" and her payment of $1 in
consideration of such transfer.
On motion of Council Member Costello, seconded by Council Member Arnold, and on
the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Costello, Arnold, Fellows, Guthrie, and Mayor Ferrara

ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 28"' day of July 2009.
