Subject: Fourth of July Firework policy
Dear Council members,
I am unable to attend the meeting on Feb. 12th when the issue to allow fireworks in Arroyo Grande will be on the
agenda. I wanted to provide my input on this matter to you, as you consider your decisions.
First, I am no fan of fireworks. I feel they are a danger. We personally lost a new vehicle one year due to fireworks (yes,
burned totally) and our neighbor lost their roof a different year. Each year there seems to be a report or two of damage
(last year, an apartment building in Grover Beach and a shed fire in rural AG!)
But, I also realize that many people enjoy playing with fire, and many non‐profits make lots of money selling these. So, I
want to submit my vote to limit fireworks in the city of Arroyo Grande to just the day of July 4th, maybe 11am to 11pm.
I am attaching a copy of an article reported by KSBY last June. It lists cities on the Central Coast and their policies
allowing fireworks. You will see that our tri‐cities (Oceano, Grover Beach and Arroyo Grande) allow them for 3 days, as
does the city of Guadalupe. The other cities allow fireworks only on July 4th, or ban them altogether.
I am sure all the arguments will be presented to you at the upcoming city council meeting, but please keep in mind our
pets, Veterans who suffer from PTSD and the safely of our selves and property when you make your decision.
Thank you for taking the time to address this issue important to me.
Julie
