Background
The Jim Guthrie Community Service Grant Program provides $20,000 to eligible non-profit organizations each year
Organizations must provide a social service, educational, cultural, beautification, and/or recreational programs benefiting the Arroyo Grande community to be eligible

Applications for 2020
Sixteen (16) applications were submitted
Total amount requested - $66,630
Substantial increase from 2019 applications
Ten (10) applications requesting $30,210

Grant Panel
Grant panel comprised of one member of each of the City’s advisory boards, and the South County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors
The grant panel reviewed the applications and developed the funding recommendations considered by City Council tonight.

The grant panel met via teleconference on May 28th
Reviewed and critiqued each application individually
Applicants had an opportunity to address the panel on behalf of their organization
A group discussion produced the final recommendations

Organizations that provide programs and services to directly assisting individuals affected by the current pandemic
Funding for food, clothing, and shelter were especially prioritized
Grant panel emphasized funding requests that provide goods and services, rather than cover administrative costs

Provide advising and consultant opportunities to support small, local businesses and entrepreneurs.
Five Cities Meals on Wheels ($2,500)
Delivers hot meals to homebound residents.
Assistance League of SLO County ($2,500)
Provides clothing for disadvantaged K-12 students
Five Cities Diversity Coalition ($1,000)
Diversity education for 5-12 grade students

Staff and coordination of existing food distribution programs that serve AG residents
