Hello Mayor, Councilmembers, and staff of Arroyo Grande,
While these streets are being treated with digout repairs and alligator crack sealing, and not
necessarily being fully resurfaced, it is my hope that staff also takes the opportunity to
improve the bicycle and pedestrian environment to the degree that the work allows for.
Ideas include but are not limited to:
Continuing the bike lane on Fair Oaks all the way to the intersection of South Halcyon
Narrowing overly wide travel lanes (from as large as 17' to between 10' and 12'),
especially on Elm Street
Keeping the bike lane out of the "door zone" to the extent feasible
Striping an uphill bike lane on Wesley and Vernon
Striping continental crosswalks
Most if not all of these ideas would be consistent with the draft circulation element
improvements that should come before you in the near future. Again, I'm not sure of the extent
of the restriping in this particular project, but addressing these issues during regular
maintenance is the most cost effective way to see these improvements done.
Thanks for your time,
Steven Dunbar
