April 15, 1986
The Arroyo Grande Planning Cam fission meet in regular session with Vice Chairman Garr
. presiding. Present are Commissioners Moore, Boggess, Flores and Olsen. Commissioner Soto and
.Chairman Gerrish are absent. Planning Director Eisner is also in attendance.
MINUTE . APPROVAL
The minutes of the April 1st meeting were . corrected by noting that Chairman Gerrish
returned to the Chairmanship following the public, hearing on Use Permit Case No. 86 -405, Car
Wash Facility at 222 Grand Avenue. There being no further additions or corrections, the
minutes of the Planning Commission meeting of March 18, 1986 was approved as prepared, and
the minutes of the meeting of April 1, 1986 were approved as. corrected.'
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW CASES 86-358 AND 86 -359, WALL SIGNS, 840 OAK PARK
BOULEVARD (MARIE CALLENDER'S RESTAURANT) AND 850 OAK PARK BOULEVARD
(BEST WESTERN MOTEL).
Planning Director Eisner reviewed the staff report on both applications for signs at
Marie Callender's Restaurant and the Best Western Motel. Commissioner Moore asked why these
,items had been returned to the Commission. Planning Director Eisner responded that the
Council had denied the applications as originally submitted and the applicants were , resubmitting
with additional information and graphic materiaL
Jerry Murdock, Comet Signs, representing the applicants, responded to questions by the
Commission as to their intent to take down the existing sign standard., Mr. Murdock indicated
that as soon as the Oak Park /101 intersection is rebuilt, the existing sign standard would be
removed.
There being no further questions, the Commission discussed the applications among
themselves. Mr. Eisner suggested that each sign application be handled separately.
On motion by Commissioner Olsen, seconded by Commissioner Flores, and carried on a
4 -1 vote with Commissioner Boggess dissenting, Architectural Review Case No. 86 -358, wall
signs for the Marie Callender's Restaurant, was recommended to the City Council for approval.
On motion by Commissioner Olsen, seconded by Commissioner Moore, and carried on a
4-1 vote with Commissioner . Boggess dissenting, Architectural Review Case No. 86 -359, wall
signs for the Best Western Motel, was recommended to the City Council for approval.
ADJOURNMENT --
There being no further business before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned by
the Vice Chairman at 7:55 P.M.
