Re: SAVE HOME STAYS
Item #9.a. on the agenda. Public Hearings
To: Caren Ray Russom, Mayor and Council Members
I am writing to ask you to please consider that Homestays are not the same
as Detached Vacation rentals.
When a guest is staying in someone’s home, there is a closer relationship
with their hosts. Many travelers choose this option now to experience the
heart of a community as part of the enriching travel experience. Guests and
hosts become friends and travel secrets of the local area are unfolded
heartening both parties. Homestay hosts are ambassadors for the City of
Arroyo Grande.
Because a Homestay is so personal, it is imperative that hosts have short-
term flexibility. It makes sense to separate the rules and permits for
attached units from detached units.
A lot of people had to create a new source of income during troubled times,
to save their homes and continue to be a part of the community. Please
don’t threaten our way of life with rules based on bad apples.
Thank you for considering my request.
