Subject: Consideration of a Resolution Suspending Penalties for Failure to Meet Required Water
I was just made aware that the Board is considering stopping the penalties for people who use
more water than the allocations. I do not understand WHY you would even consider
something like this? Do you really think the people who are still insisting on having a green
lawn will suddenly cut back if they are not penalized for it? How can you have restrictions if
they are not enforced? And what about all the people who have spent thousands of dollars to
change their landscaping away from water guzzling lawns because they were tired of paying
the penalty fees only to find out if they had waited a few months it would all go away? This is
so short-sighted. Do you really think the draught is over since we have had ONE rainy
season? Especially since Lopez Lake isn’t even at full capacity like other reservoirs in SLO
County. Please do the right thing and keep the penalties in place!
