I would like to comment about the potential mural design. I agree with what the ARC had to say about the current design: -Add imagery specific to Arroyo Grande -Add more color to the design to avoid a monochromatic appearance.( It has an unusual green color covering the entire mural-the butterflies aren’t even their beautiful orange color. And the monarchs are great but feel it’s not really Arroyo Grande but more so Grover beach. ) -Modify the design to tell a story about Arroyo Grande (I feel it would be best to come up with a design that reflects the town better.) Better to not do a mural than to do one that doesn’t mesh with the village. Thank you for listening to my suggestions. I would like to add to my public comments for tomorrow’s city council meeting. I think the artist is very good and does a great job. I think his work does well in slo and pismo area but not so much ag. Also, the current items don’t seem unique to ag as he has done similar designs in other towns as well-seen below on his Instagram: The flowers, sun, butterfly, yin/yang are all done elsewhere and it doesn’t have any unique elements to Arroyo Grande. I would very much be interested in seeing another rendering from the artist if interested as he is very talented and I believe he can find something that would work for our town. Thank you, Byron Talley From:SHIRLEY GIBSON To:Sarah Lansburgh Subject:Mural Date:Tuesday, April 11, 2023 1:34:28 PM I want to make a short comment on the proposed mural (Klondike building). The mural doesn’t make any connection to Arroyo Grande. What story is the mural telling? Come to Arroyo for flowers and butterflies? The army/teal color looks drab in the rendering. Or is the mural just decoration for the building? I think the mural is nice artwork but lacks a meaning or story. I would like to voice my opinion on the proposed mural slated for the side of Klondike’s Pizza. I don’t feel like it fits with the character of the Village of Arroyo Grande. We have so many historical buildings that reflect the quaintness of our town. I would like a mural that speaks more to our historical nature.
