THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE PROVIDING AN
INTERPRETATION UF THE DEVELOPMENT CODE THAT
A WATCHMAN'S QUARTERS IN A PERMANENT
STRUCTURE IS A PERMITTED ACCESSORY USE,
SUBJECT TO ISSUANCE OF A CONDITIONAL USE
PERMIT IN THE GENERAL COMMERCIAL (GC) ZONE

WHEREAS, tl�e Development Code was adopted by the City Council on May 14, 1991,
and became effective on June 13, 1991; and
WHEREAS, Section 9-01.110 (G)(3) of the Development Code provides the Planning
Commission with the authority to clarify ambiguities in the Title; and
WHEREAS, Development Code Table 9-07.030-A lists uses permitted in the General
Commercial zone; and
WHEREAS, Table 9-07.030-A allows the Planning Commission to determine that a
proposed use is similar to, and no more objectionable than the uses identified in the table; and
W��EREAS, The Planning Commission has received a request for interpretation of
whether a watchmen's quarters can be operated as an accessory use in the GC zone; and

WHEREAS, the PJanning Commission, after due research and deliberation finds that:
The proposed use, a watchman's quarters in a permanent structure, is similar to other
uses permitted in the GC zone; and
The proposed use in no more objectionable than the uses identified in Table 9-07.030-A.
NOW, TH�REFOR�, BE IT RESOLV�D that the Planning Commission of the City
of Arroyo Grande hereby makes the interpretation that a watchman's quarters in a permanent
structure is permitted accessory use in GC zone subject to issuance of a Conditional Use Permit.
On motion by Commissioner Tappan, seconded by Commissioner Soto, and by the
following roll call vote to wit:
AYFS: Commissioners Tappan, Soto, Beck, Deviny, and Keen
NOES: Commissioner Lubin
ABSENT: Commissioner Carr
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 7th day of November, 1995.
