A RESOLUTION OF TIIE PLANNING COMMISSION OF T1-IE
CITY OF ARROYO GRAND� INTERPRETING THAT
CCRTAIN PROIIIIiITCD S[GNS ARL P�RMITTCD ON A
T�MPORARY nASIS
W1�IERCAS, the Development Code was adopted by the City Council on May 14, 1991,
and became effective on June 3, 1991; and
WHEREAS, Section 9-01-1.10(G)(3) of the Development Code provides the Planning
Commission with tlie authority to clarify ambiguities in the Title; and
WIIER�AS, tl�e sign ordinance was not changed by adoption of the Development Code;
and
WI-ICREAS, Section 9-13.050 of the Development Code prohibits the use of certain types
of signs; and
W�ICREA5, Section 9-13.040 of tl�e Development Code, "Sign Exceptions to Permit
Require►nents", allows certain ternporary signs proliibited on a permaneiit basis per Section 9-13.050;
and
WHCRCAS, there is a discrepancy between Sections 9-13.040 and 9-13.050; and
WI the Planning Commission after due research and deliberation finds t}iat:
1. Certain prohibited signs identified in Section 9-13.050 may be permitted on a temporary
basis if they meet the criteria under Section 9-13.040, as follows:
A. Special Event Display
1) Banners, flags and pennants are permitted for 30 days prior to an event and seven
(7) days after;
2) Gas and hot air balloons are permitted for a tl�ree (3) day period, not to exceed
four times a year, unless approved by the Planning Director.

Arroyo Grande hereby makes tl�e interpretatioi� tl�at certain signs are permitted on a temporary basis
citywide.
On motion by Cornmissioner Soto, seconded by Comrnissioner Tappan, and by tt�e following
roll call vote, to wit:
