CC 2023-09-12 CM Update_PPThe BOS voted 5-0 to support a contract with FCFA to provide fire and emergency medical services to Oceano beginning on July 1, 2024.
Past and present representatives from OCSD also spoke in favor of contracting with FCFA and praised our service response.
The BOS direction includes contracting for continued 2-0 staffing though Board members recognized the need to get to 3-0 staffing as identified in the County Fire Strategic Plan.
The County was not able to achieve 3-0 staffing to equity concerns with other unincorporated areas
and significant budget/funding constraints
a countywide fire tax focused revenue generation for unincorporated areas which may be put to voters in 2024

If this tax was approved, the County committed to re-opening the agreement to consider a staffing increase to get to 3-0 .
Fire prevention will be further discussed during contract negotiations given the limited contract inspections of our current service model.
Lastly, renovation of Station 3 was brought up as a future idea which we supported as running the third company out of Station 3 would be ideal.
Our next step is to schedule an agenda item with FCFA Board on October 16 to discuss the County’s direction and determine contract deal points including staffing, fire prevention, term,
and other items.
