RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF .ARROYO
GRANDE OPPOS I NGCURBS IDE DEL I VERY OF MAl L BY THE
UNITED STATES POST OFFICE
WHEREAS, It has come to the .attentlonof the City Council of the City of Arroyo I
Grande that the United States Post Office Department by regulation Is denying door
to door mall delivery services to homes built In new subdivisions unless a rural
type mailbox Is provided at the curb by each home owner,and I
WHEREAS, by this arbitrary regulation the work done In new subdivisions In re- i

qui ring underground utilities Is completely frustrated,and !
WHEREAS, rural type mailboxes destroy the aesthetic beauty which the City has I
sought to develop In Its new subdivisions, and I
WHEREAS, suchan arbitrary policy on the part of the.PostOfflceOepartment I

Is rankdlscrJmlnation against new home owners who will be forced tQ put rur;ll
~lIp. mall boxes In front of their new homes which Is not dema"ded of ether prop- I
erty owners, and !

WHEREAS, the location of mailboxes at curbside will Increase the temptation
to tamper and pilfer the United States mall,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Arroyo
Grande does hereby go on record as opposing the Post Office Depertment regula-
tion requlrelng curbside mailboxes and does join with all other Interested
agencies and parties In encouraging that appropriate 'action .be taken to bring
about a reversa I of the curbs I de ma 11 box rul e by the Un I ted States Post Off! ce
Department.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and Is hereby directed to send
certified copies of this Resolution toaJ I interested parties and ,agencies In
order.o present the position of the City of Arroyo Grande with respect to this
arbitrary and capricious ruling by the United States Post ,Office Depertment.
On motion by Councilman Burt, seconded by Councilwoman Thompson and on the
following roll call vote, to-wit:
AYES: Councilwoman Thompson, Councilmen Levine, Burt and Mayor Wood
NOES: None l
