ORDIIDmCE NO. 80, LICENSING AND RmJ'LATING THE
BUSINESS OF CONIDCTING OR OPERATING CARD GAMES OR
CARD TABLES AND PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOIATION

BE IT ORmINED by the Council of the City of Arroyo Grande
as follows:
S~TION 1. Every person, firm, corporation or associ4.t.11bn.'1
engaged in the business of conducting or operating card games or
card tables for hire or for a consideration, or mo conducts or
operates card games or card tables for hire or for consideration
in conjunction with another business shall pay a license fee as
follows:
(a) Where only one such card game or card table is conducted
or operated, an annual license fee in the sum of $7,.00.
(b) Where more than one such card game or card table is oper-
ated an annual license fee of $7,.00 for every such card game or
card table so conducted or operated.
S~TION2. It shall be unlawful to operate or conduct any card
table or card game between the hours of 12 o'clock midnight and
8 o'clock A.M. of the following day.
S~TION 3. Any license issued under the provisions of this
ordinance to any person, firm, corporation or association shall not
be deemed a license to deal, play, carryon, open or cause to be
opened, or to clflnduct, either as owner or employee, whether for hire
or not, any game made illegal by the provisions of the Penal Code
of the State of Cal:tf'ornia, or by the provisions of any statute of
the state of California.
S~TION 4. ADy building, room or prlQ,ises to which a license
shall be granted under the provisions of this ordinance shall be ('
deemed to be a public place, and all Police omcers aDd Peace
Officers shall have tree access thereto. No such building, room or
premises shall be kept locked during business hours, nor shall any
card table or card game be conducted behind locked doors. No minor
under the age of twenty-one' years shall be employed in or shall be
allowed to frequent, remain in or visit the room or premises wherein
is conducted or operated any card game or card table licensed under
the provisions of this ordinance.

SEX::TION 5. No license shall be issued under the provisi ons of
this ordinance except upon the order of the City CoBncil. Arv pro-
visi9ns of the City of Arroyo Grande defining the respective duties
of the City Clerk and City Collector in the issuance, collection
and accounting on all licenses are hereby made a part of this ord-
inance.
SEX::TION 6. The violation of a:oy of the provisions of this
ordinance shall be sufficient cause, and the City Council is hereby
given the power and authority to revoke any licenses issued under
the terms of this ordinance.
SEX::TION 7. Any person, firm, corporation or association violating
any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a
misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by a fine
not to exceed .5"00.00, or by imprisonment in the County Jail of the
County of San ruis Obispo for a period of not exceeding six months,
or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SEX::TION 8. This ordinance, together with the Ayes and Woes shall
be published once within fifteen days after its final passage in the
Herald-Recorder, a Weekly newspaper printed, published and circulated
in said City, and the same shall take effect and be in force thirty
days after its final passage.
