CITY COUNCIL, PLANNING COMMISSION, TRAFFIC COMMISSION
WORKSHOP - "GREAT STREETS" PRESENTATION
THURSDAY, JULY 25, 1996
COUNCIL CHAMBERS, 215 EAST BRANCH STREET .
ARROYO GRANDE, CALIFORNIA
1. CALL TO ORDER
The Arroyo Grande City Council, Planning Commission, and Traffic Commission met
for a Workshop-"Great Streets" presentation at 6:30 p.m., with Mayor A. K. "Pete"
Dougall presiding.
2. ROLL CALL
Present with Mayor Dougall were Planning Commission Chair William Tappan;
Planning Commissioners John Keen, Sandy Lubin, and Lynn Titus; Traffic Commission
Chair Dick Franks, and Traffic Commissioner Tony Lagna. Staff Members present
were City Manager Robert L. Hunt, City Clerk Nancy Davis, and Public Works Director
John Walface.
3. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS
None.
4. "GREAT STREETS" PRESENTATION
Erik Justesen of the RRM Design Group spoke on the tools and ideas for revitalization
of small towns and creation of "great streets." His slides depicted areas where good
design has improved business vitality and the lives of people living in the areas.
The Mayor and Commissioners made comments and ~iscussed the'ideas as they
could apply to Arroyo Grande. The short and long-range studies of State Highway
227 also were addressed.
5. QUESTION AND ANSWER PERIOD
Mike Harmon of San Luis Obispo Council of Govemments said the SLOCOG supports
"Great Streets." Howard Mankins of 200 Hillcrest Drive made suggestions concerning
applying the "Great Streets" principles to Arroyo Grande.
6. ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by LagnalLubin and the motion passed unanimously to adjourn the
workshop at 8:05 p.m.
