CC 2014-01-14 Supplemental Informationu IN 111W6161n►TC317 STEVEN AD. L J,114iT ► it i After reviewing past meeting minutes at the request of City Charter Advisory Committee Vice -Chair John Keen, it appears that Mr. Keen made a suggestion to add language that was agreed to by the Committee, but was inadvertently left out of the final City Charter document approved by the Committee. The suggested language is as follows: ARTICLE VII. AMENDMENTS Section 700. Amendments. Any proposal for the amendment, revision, or repeal of this Charter or any portion thereof may be proposed by majority vote of the City Council or by initiative by the People of the City of Arroyo Grande. No such proposal shall be effective until approved by a majority vote of the voters voting at an election on the question and until filed with the Secretary of State of the State of California. In the event of any conflict between this section and Article Xl, § 3 of the California Constitution, as may be amended, the latter shall govern. The provision simply states what is already required to amend a Charter, but has been suggested to ensure it is clear for those reading the Charter that may not be familiar with the process. Given the circumstances, staff recommends the Council direct staff to add this wording to the Draft City Charter. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you. cc. City Attorney
