PC Consecutive Absences RequestMEMORANDUM TO: CITY COUNCIL FROM: STEVEN ADAMS, CITY MANAGER ' SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF REQUEST FROM PLANNING COMMISSIONER KEEN FOR CONSECUTIVE ABSENCES FROM PLANNING COMMISSION MEETINGS DATE: JUNE 10, 2014 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the City Council consent to three consecutive absences by Planning Commissioner Keen. FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no cost impact from this item. BACKGROUND: According to Municipal Code Section 2.18.060, three consecutive regular absences from Planning Commission meetings constitute a resignation unless the City Council consents to such absences. Planning Commissioner Keen has requested City Council consent for absences from the scheduled meetings on August 5, August 19, and September 2. ANALYSIS OF ISSUES: Requirements in the Municipal Code regarding commission absences are designed to encourage steady attendance. However, Commission Keen has demonstrated an ongoing record of excellent attendance, has and continues to be a valued member of the Planning Commission, and does not currently plan on absences beyond the three that will be required for his planned vacation. ALTERNATIVES: The following alternatives are provided for the Council's consideration: Approve consent to the absences. Do not approve consent to the absences. Provide staff other direction. PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND COMMENTS: The agenda was posted in front of City Hall on Thursday, June 5, 2014 and on the City's website on Friday, June 6, 2014. No public comments were received.
