A RFSOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF mE CITY
OF ARROYO GRANDE REQUFSTING AUTHORIZATION
TO CWSE CITY STREETS FOR mE 1993 ANNUAL
STRAWBERRY FFSTIV AL
WHEREAS, the Strawberry Festival Committee of the Arroyo qrande Village
Improvement Association has requested closure of portions of Branch Street (Highway 227), ----
from Traffic Way to Mason Street; and Bridge Street, from Branch to Nelson Streets, in the City
of Arroyo Grande, State of California, for the period of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May
29 and Sunday, May 30, 1993; and
WHEREAS, the Festival Committee has requested closure of Short Street, from Branch
Street to Olohan Alley, for the period of 6:00 a.m. Friday, May 28 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, May
30, 1993, and proper barricading and closure to traffic during the night hours; and
WHEREAS, it has been requested that there be a "No Parking/Tow Away Zone" on both
sides of Branch Street (Highway 227), from Traffic Way to Mason Street; Bridge Street, from
Branch to Nelson Streets; Nelson Street, from Traffic Way to Mason Street; and Mason Street,
from Nelson Street to Le Point Street, in the City of Arroyo Grande, State of California, for a
period of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30, 1993; and
WHEREAS, it has also been requested, for fire/emergency access, that there be a "No
Parking/Tow Away Zone" on both sides of Nevada Street, from Branch Street to Le Point
Street; and Le Point Street, from Nevada Street easterly through the Tally Ho curve, in the City
of Arroyo Grande, State of California, for the period of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May
29 and Sunday, May 30, 1993; and
WHEREAS, the reason for the street closure and restricted parking will be for the
purposes of holding annual Strawberry Festival activities; and
WHEREAS, the Arroyo Grande Police Department will arrange for signing during the
period of time that restricted parking is requested; and
WHEREAS, the Festival Committee also has requested use of the parking lots along
Olohan Alley, from Mason to Bridge Streets, from 6:00 p.m. Friday, May 28,to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday, May 30, 1993, with Olohan Alley being left open for traffic during the evening hours;
the Car Corral from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30, 1993; the
vacant lot at the corner of Short and Nelson Streets for parking from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30, 1993; and the five-acre lot next to the Community
Center on West Branch Street for shuttle parking on Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30,
1993.
NOW, THEREFORE, mE CITY COUNCIL OF mE CITY OF ARROYO
GRANDE HEREBY RFSOLVFS AS FOLWWS:
1. That request be made to the State of California Department of Transportation for
permission to restrict parking on portions of Branch Street, also known as Highway 227, from
Traffic Way to Mason Street, for the period of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and
Sunday, May 30, 1993.

2. That request also be made to the State of California Departml'nt of Transportation for
permission to close portions of Branch Street, also known as Highwaj 227, from Tlame Way
to Mason Street, for the period of 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29 and 3unday, May
30, 1993.
3. That the City Council authorizes the restricted parking and clO~1I7e of Branch Street,
upon receipt of approval from the State Department of Transportation for said pW'1dng restriction
and street closure, and authorizes restricted parking and closure of other streets, as requested
by the Festival Committee.

4. That the Arroyo Grande Police Department will arrange for "No Parking/Tow Away
Zone" signs on said streets.
5. That the Arroyo Grande Police Department will control traffic around the street
closures, and its officers will be stationed to give instructions and directions to motorists
regarding detouring around the street closures.

6. That the City Council authorizes the use of various City parking lots and vacant lots
requested by the Festival Committee.
7. That the Arroyo Grande Village Improvement Association will provide proof of
proper liability insurance coverage for the City.
8. That the A.G. V.LA. will compensate the City for any extra expenses incurred by the
Strawberry Festival, such as police and clean-up expenses.
9. That the A.G.V.LA. will provide private police for all areas that need monitoring,
such as the Swinging Bridge.
On motion of Council Member Burke ,seconded by Council Member- Souza , and on
the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Burke, Souza, Moots, Brandy and Mayor Gallagher
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 27th day of April, 1993.
