Appointment Parks and Recreation CommissionMEMORANDUM TO: CITY COUNCIL FROM: KELLY WETMORE, DIRECTOR OF LEGISLATIVE AND INFORMATION SERVICES/CITY CLERK BY: KITTY NORTON, EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT/DEPUTY CITY CLERK SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF COUNCIL APPOINTMENT TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION DATE: OCTOBER 14, 2014 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the Council approve the recommendation of Council Member Barneich to appoint Linda Sandy to the Parks and Recreation Commission. IMPACT TO FINANCIAL AND PERSONNEL RESOURCES: There is no fiscal impact from this action. BACKGROUND: City Council policy sets forth appointment procedures for the City's Commissions, Boards and Committees. The policy states that the Mayor and each respective Member of the Council shall recommend a representative to the various Commissions, Boards and Committees, subject to the approval by a majority vote of the Council. All Commission, Board, and Committee Members serve at the pleasure of the Council. ANALYSIS OF ISSUES: An unscheduled vacancy has occurred on the Parks and Recreation Commission due to a resignation by Matt Ekberg. The term for the seat expires January 31, 2017. A Notice of Vacancy was posted at City Hall and on the City's website on September 9, 2014 pursuant to State law. Three applications from interested individuals were received and reviewed. Council Member Barneich has recommended the vacancy be filled by Linda Sandy. An application form for the recommended appointment is attached. Approve the recommended appointment; 2. Do not approve the recommended appointment; or .3. Provide direction to staff. ADVANTAGES: This appointment will provide for a full membership of the Parks and Recreation Commission. DISADVANTAGES: No disadvantages are identified as long as the appointment reflects the desired community representation on this Commission by the City Council. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW: No environmental review is required for this item. PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND COMMENTS: The Agenda was posted in front of City Hall on Thursday, October 9, 2014. The Agenda and report were posted on the City's website on Friday, October 10, 2014. No public comments were received. Attachment: 1 .
