HONORARY PROCLAMATION DECLARING
APRIL 2014 AS "MONTH OF THE CHILD" and
"CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH" and
APRIL 11, 2015 AS "DAY OF THE CHILD"
WHEREAS, Saturday, April 11, 2015, will commemorate the 37h Annual Children's
Day in the Plaza Celebration in the San Luis Obispo Mission Plaza. This year's
celebration marks a special partnership with Arts Obispo's Passport to the Arts, where
children and families will have the opportunity to discover creativity, individuality,
diversity, and the arts while exploring community resources; and
WHEREAS, Month of the Child and Child Abuse Prevention Month is a time to
recognize that children's opportunities are our responsibilities, and to commit ourselves
to ensuring that each and every child experiences a high quality environment — at home,
at child care, at school and in the community — that will promote their optimal
development; and
WHEREAS, every moment in a child's life is an opportunity for that child to learn,
and that the quality of these experiences may determine whether a child succeeds in
school and in life, and that all children need caring and loving adults in their lives; and
WHEREAS, this month's activities will provide an opportunity to acknowledge
youth and early care and education programs and their dedicated staff, and to raise the
awareness of the community, employers and elected officials of the need to improve the
quality, availability, and accessibility of such programs; and
WHEREAS, may we remember to listen to and watch the children around us, to
have patience, and to allow them the opportunity to enjoy the journey of childhood.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Arroyo
Grande hereby proclaims April 2015 as "Month of the Child" and "Child Abuse
Prevention Month" and April 11, 2015 as "Day of the Child."
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal
of the City of Arroyo Grande to be affixed this 14th day of April 2015.
