INCORPORATED 9� � MEMORANDUM m JULY 10, 1811 C,q<<F0V%t TO: CITY COUNCIL FROM: GEOFF ENGLISH, PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR BY: RON SIMPSON, PUBLIC WORKS SUPERVISOR SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF ACCEPTANCE OF THE PLATINO LANE AND ORO DRIVE INTERSECTION DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT, PW 2015-08 DATE: NOVEMBER 24, 2015 RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended the City Council: 1. Accept the project improvements as constructed by JG Contracting Corporation in accordance with the plans and specifications for the Platino Lane and Oro Drive Intersection Drainage Improvements Project; 2. Reallocate savings in the amount of $2,500 of Local Sales Tax funds from the 2015 Summer Concrete Repair project to this project; 3. Direct staff to file a Notice of Completion; and 4. Authorize release of the retention, thirty-five (35) days after the Notice of Completion has been recorded, if no liens have been filed. IMPACT ON FINANCIAL AND PERSONNEL RESOURCES: The FY 2015-16 capital improvement program budget includes $73,500 for the Platino Lane and Oro Drive Intersection Drainage Improvements project. The contractor's final construction cost is $67,461.86, and the total project cost (design, construction, administration, testing, etc.) is estimated at $76,000. Staff requests an additional $2,500 of Local Sales Tax monies from 2015 Citywide Summer Concrete Repair project cost savings to cover additional project expenditures as follows. The recommended action will not result in any impact on staff resources. The project scope involved the removal of an existing bubble-up storm drain inlet which was replaced with a French drain, and replacement of an ADA concrete ramp. ANALYSIS OF ISSUES: The contractor has completed the work in accordance with the approved plans and specifications. There are no outstanding issues. ALTERNATIVES: The following alternatives are provided for the Commission's consideration: - Approve staffs recommendations to accept the Platino Lane and Oro Drive Intersection Drainage Improvements project; - Do not accept the Platino Lane and Oro Drive -Intersection Drainage Improvements project; - Accept the Platino Lane and Oro Drive Intersection Drainage Improvements project but do not authorize release of retention; or - Provide direction to staff. ADVANTAGES: The project is complete. Accepting the improvements will allow staff to close out the project. However, the contract documents include a one-year warranty period for the contractor to address any construction defects that may arise. ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW: The project is categorically exempt from CEQA pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15301(c). PUBLIC NOTIFICATION AND COMMENTS: The agenda was posted at City Hall on Thursday, November 19, 2015. The agenda and staff report was posted on the City's website on Friday, November 20, 2015. No public comments were received as of.the time of preparation of this report. Attachments: 1.
