A RESOLUTION OF ~HE CITY COUNCIL i
,
OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE APPROVING
"HANDS ACROSS THE BEACHES" DAY
ON OCTOBER 7, 1990
.
WHEREAS, Hands Across the Beaches is a voluntary group of
citizens supporting the protection of our coastal waters, beaches
and air; and
WHEREAS , Hands Across the Beaches is formed through the
efforts of the general public, including citizens from all
r-- political persuasions, age groups, economic status, cultural and
social backgrounds, and philosophic ideals; and
WHEREAS, Hands Across the BeacheS members will come together
and join hands on October 7, 1990 to assert their concerns for
protection against the dangers of offshore oil in federal waters
off our coastline; and
WHEREAS , our varied coastline provides a rich scenic
recreational, cultural and historical heritage, and our marine
environment is one of our most valuable resources for recreation,
tourism, fishing and other coastal industries; and
WHEREAS, the city of Arroyo Grande is strongly committed to
the wise management of the coastline to ensure that the
environmental and economic value of the coastal zone will be
sustained; and
WHEREAS, preserving the productivity and quality of coastal
resource~ requires public awareness, support and an understanding i
that the protection of the coast is a respon!libility shared by
individual citizens, the business community and public
institutions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the city 'council of the i

City of Arroyo Grande declares October 7, 1990 as "Hands Across the
Beaches Day," and encourages all residents of the City who so
desire, and find it possible to do so, to come together that day
and join in the Hands Across the Beaches gathering.
On motion of Council Member Dougall , seconded by
Council Member Olsen , and on the following roll call
vote, to wit:
AYES: Council .Meni:Jers Dougall, Olsen, ~s and Mayor Millis
NOES: None
ABSENT: Council .Member Smith
r the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 25th day of
September, 1990.
