The City Council met in special session ~ayor
Moore presiding.
On ro21 ca11 Councilmen Moore~Gibson and Poole
reported present~Councilmen Brisco and Phillips absent.
Mayor ~oore stated the object of the meeting
was to canvass the returns of the Special Election held
on Jarnxary ?,1936.
Resolution #59`~was read by the Cler~c.
A RESOLUTION DECLARIAG TAE CANVASS OF RE-
TURNS AND RESULT OF THE SPECIAL ~ITNICIPAL
ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE
ON THE 7TH D~4Y OF JANUARY~1936.
WHEREASthe CounciloP the City of Arroyo Grande~
by Ordinance I4o.51~duly called and ordered held in said
city of Arrayo Grande~a special municipal election on the
7th.day of Jan.1936,for the purpose of submitting to the
qualiPied electors of said ~ity the following proposition~
to-wit:"Shall the City Council hereaPter appoin,~ the City
Clerk of the City oF Arroyo Grande."
WHEREAS~it appears tha.t notice of said election
was duly and legally given~that the voti~g preeinct was
properly established~that election oPficers were appointed
and election supplies ft~rnished and that in all respects
said election was held and conducted and the votes cast
thereat received and canvassed~and the returns thereof made
and declared in time,form and manner as required by the
general laws of the State governing elections in the cities
oP the fifth and sixth class.
AND WI~REAS~the Couneil of said city met at the
Council Chamber thereof' on Monday~the 13th.day of January
1936 to eanvass the returns of said election~and having
canvassed said returns~the Council finds that the number
of votes cast,and other matters required by law~to be as
hereinafter stated.
NOW THEREFORE~BE IT RESOLVED as follows:
That said special municipal election was held
and conducted in the City of Arroyo Grande on Tuesday~
the ~th.day of janua~y,1936in t~e~form and manner as
required by law.
That there was one votir~g preeinct established
for the purpose oP holdi said election~consisting oP a
consolidation of the regut~ar elect~~~n precincts within
said city establishedfor holdir~g general~State and County
elections~said voting precinct being known as Consolidated
Voting Precinct "A"~comprising a consolidation of Arroyo
Grande precinets No.l and No.2.
That the whole number of votes cast at said
election was 230.
That the total number oP votes cast at said
election in favor of said proposition was 94.
Tha~ the total number oP votes cast at said
election against said proposition was 136.
That less than one-half of all the votes cast
at said electi.on upon said proposition ~rere in Favor oP
said proposition and that the said proposition failed
to carry.

Upon motion of Councilman Poole,duly seconded by
Councilman Gibeon~aad carried~Resolution No.59 was adopted~said
resolution declaring the Canvass of Returns and Result af the
Special Municipal Election held on January 7th.1936 to ~rhich election
the t'ollowing proposition was submitted~to-wit:
'~Shall the City Council hereafter appoint the City Clerk
of the City of ~rroyo Grande."Said resolution Pound that the whole
number o~ votes cast at said election was 230~that 94 votes were
c ast in Pavar of said proposition;that 136 votes were cast against
said propoeitiot~;and that said proposition failecl to carry.
