RE: Coastal Christian School repair of Mudslide
Dear Bob,
As the City is aware, CCS was struck by a mudslide from the North West side of the campus which
washed into the playfields of the campus continuing around through to Oak Park Blvd. and Arroyo
Grande neighboring homes. This was an unavoidable natural catastrophe.
The neighbor from which this originated,being Los Robles Del Mar, is not cooperating with any clean
up efforts or taken responsibility for the erosion.After seeking help from the County to notify the
Landowner,they have indicated that it is a Civil matter and the property is an Agricultural parcel
which naturally eroded.
It is estimated that restoration costs to bring the school back to pre-disaster conditions as well as
providing some additional mudslide control measures will be approximately$500,000. CCS has
reached out to the County and FEMA for assistance and so far neither one is able to assist a private
school. Currently the school does not have any funding sources to complete the restoration efforts.
We are currently seeking out our last alternative being USDA-NRCS which offers a program and can
finance up 75%of the cost,provided we have a sponsor to handle the remainder of the 25%in costs.

time trying to find a government agency sponsor before the funds have all been allocated to other
projects. To secure our position in line we need a letter from the City of Arroyo Grande indicating
their willingness to be our sponsor as soon as possible.Please see attached sample letter provided by
USDA.
We know the City is not in the position to finance the remaining 25%,however the program does
allow us, CCS,to deposit this remainder with you. CCS is also able to help with any administration
costs associated with this request.

Please know our drainage infrastructure is still compromised to date because our basins are still filled
with mud and cannot be excavated until they dry. Our neighbor's property is continuing to erode with
silt and debris being deposited downstream during each rain will continue downstream until our basins
are cleared.
CCS currently has been engineering a plan to install a bather system to barricade debris and mud from
continuing through our site which would also benefit Arroyo Grande and in assuring the residents on
the north side of Oak Park Blvd. from re-occurring mud slides in the future. I should have this plan
available for review by the end of this week.
Can you please see if the City is willing to assist?I believe it is a win, win situation for both CCS and
the City of Arroyo Grande to prevent a future mudslide event from impacting Oak Park Blvd.
