AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE AMENDING
THE MUNICIPAL CODE TITLE 2, CHAPTER 5
I REGARDING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE HEREBY ORDAINS AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1: Chapter 5, Title 2 of the Arroyo Grande Municipal Code
is amended to read in its entirety as follows:
Chapter 5. POLICE DEPARTMENT
Article 1. Training of Law Enforcement Officers
Sec. 2-5.01. Qualification standards.
The Council hereby declares that it desires to qualify to
receive aid from pursuant to the provisions of Chapter 1 of Title
4 of Part 4 of the Penal Code of the State.

Sec. 2-5.02. Adherence to standards.
Pursuant to Section 13522 of said Penal Code, the city, while
receiving aid from the State pursuant to said provisions of the
Penal Code, agrees to adhere to the standards for recruitment and
training established by the California Commission on Peace Officer
Standards and Training.

Article 2. Training of Police Dispatchers
I Sec. 2-6.01- Oualification standards.
The City hereby declares that it desires to qualify to receive
aid from the State for training of Public Safety Dispatchers under
the provisions of Section 13522, Chapter 1 of Title 4, Part 4, of
the California Penal Code.
Sec. 2-6.02. Adherence t9 s~andards.
(a) Pursuant to Penal Code Section 13510(C), Chapter 1, the
Arroyo Grande Police Department will adhere to standards for
recruitment and training established by the California Commission
on Peace Officer Standards and Training, including the following:
(1) a thorough background investigation
(2) a medical examination
(3) an evaluation of oral communications skills
(4) satisfactory completion of a P.O.S.T. certified 80
hour Basic Complaint/Dispatchers course within 12 months of date
of hire
(5) a minimum of 12 months pro~~~io~
(b) The City hereby agrees that, pursuflnt to Penal Code
Section 13512, Chapter 1, the Commission and its representatives
may make such inquiries as deemed appropriate by the commission to
ascertain that the Arroyo Grande public safety dispatcner personnel

adhere to standards for selection and training established by the
Commission.
SECTION 2: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
thirty (30) days after its passage; and within fifteen (15) days
after its passage, it shall be published once, together with the
names of the city council Members voting thereon, in a newspaper
of general circulation within the city.
On motion of Council Member Smith , seconded by Council Member
Dougall,and on the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Smith, Dougall, Moots, Olsen and Mayor Millis
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Ordinance was passed and adopted this 28th day of
