RESOLUTION NO. 1905
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF TIlE
CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE MODlFYmG THE GENERAL
PLAN BY AMENDING TEXT AND GENERAL PLAN MAP
REGARDING AGRICULTURAL SOILS LAND USE CATEGORY.
WlIEREAS, it is the stated goal of the Oty Council to preserve and maintain
agricultural use of !and and agriculturDl soil resources within the Oty of Arroyo Grande, and
WHEREAS, in order to achieve the stated goals, a comJ;1'e1Jensive agricultural land
policy must be part of the aty General Plan, and
L WHEREAS, the United States Department ot Agriculture (USDA) Soils Conservation
Service has prepared the Soils Survey ot San Luis Obispo County, Coastal Part (1984), and this
is an J\~1'icultural Land Evaluation tmich guides !and use policy and which indicates areas of
agricultural land use. These designated areas in the Oty should come under an Agricultural
Land Preservation Policy.
IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the my CounclI of Arroyo Grande amends the Oty
General PJan by adding the def1l1ition of "Agricultur8l" land to read, "AU ]and l!l.....;~ed. as
lTime Farrn1and in the United StatEs IJea?ettua:l~t of Agricultw'e (USDA) SoDs Survey of San
Luis Obispo, (basta! Part (19M). eYPII~ tlQe ]and areas that have been deveJDped a-
p-eviously subdivided fer non-agricu1t1&'al wes. Where sgricu1tural Jand has been dewJoped in
the Oty, no~ in this section shaJ1 be construed to restrict the continued \I!C of such
[X'OPEI'ty for future non-sgricu1tural reJated wes cr deveIopnent."
BE IT FUR'IHER RESOLVED that the text of the "Agricultural Use" Section of the
General Plan ba amended to read, "Prime Farrn1and shaD. not be divided into pIII'Ceh of less than
ten {lO} acres in size. Parce]s of :km than ten (10) acre; CJaTent:Iy recorded shan continue to
be viewed lIS an egricultural resource ot the Oty vathy of agriculttnl \I!C rresenratim. 'The
ten oore nininun is not intended to ~ non-agriculturaRy reJated deve10pnent on Jegal
non-confonring parce1s on existing, lem than ten (IO) acre sites."
