R 4898 RESOLUTION NO. 4898
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ARROYO GRANDE NAMING THE PLAYGROUND AREA
AT RANCHO GRANDE PARK THE "MEL COTTRELL
CHILDREN'S PLAYGROUND"
WHEREAS, it has been determined by Resolution No. 4603 that public open spaces,
beauty areas, small and large park areas and such other uses of land in the City of Arroyo
Grande should be identified; and
WHEREAS, in cases where land is already owned by the City and a majority of funds
have been donated for the purpose of developing or renovating the park and a donor has
made important contributions to the Arroyo Grande community, the Park may
commemorate the person instrumental in providing the gift to the City; and
WHEREAS, Mel Cottrell has been a co-sponsor for special projects within City facilities
and an active volunteer at Rancho Grande Park; and
WHEREAS, in 2012, Mel and Jan Cottrell donated two shade structures at Rancho
Grande park totaling over $23,000; and
WHEREAS, Mel Cottrell has made important contributions to the community through his
volunteerism, particularly at Rancho Grande Park.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Arroyo Grande
as follows:
1. That the children's play area at Rancho Grande Park officially be named the "Mel
Cottrell Children's Playground" to acknowledge the daily effort of Mel Cottrell and
his dedication to maintaining the park for enjoyment of children and their families.
On motion of Mayor Ray Russom, seconded by Council Member Storton, and on the
following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Council Members Storton, Paulding, George, and Mayor Ray Russom
NOES: None
ABSENT: Council Member Barneich
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 22nd day of January, 2019.
