Subject: Fireworks
Mayor Ray‐Russom and Council Members,
I wanted to voice my support for the social host liability portion of tonight’s consideration of our Fireworks ordinance. I
would also like to voice my support for the July 4th only restriction on the discharge of Safe and Sane Fireworks. In my
opinion one day is adequate and will have little financial impact on our service organizations. I would like to
emphatically oppose ANY change to the legal sale of Safe and Sane Fireworks. Specifically the number of days they are
sold. Having been a board member of Arroyo Grande Valley Little League and having worked the booth I know first hand
how this is the largest fundraiser of the year for many of our great service organizations. Any additional disruption to
these vital service organizations could be an enormous blow to already stressed budget’s partially due to the use fee
increases imposed by City Council. I also urge you to take into account that sales on July 5th are brisk as many people
seek to by discounted fireworks for next year. These organizations make a significant profit on this day by not having to
return the unused product. Please support our service and youth organizations who are on one hand being asked to pay
higher fees for field costs and on the other hand threatened with reductions in revenue that allow them to provide the
many needed services that make our community great.
