RESOLUTION NO. 1783
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF ARROYO GRANDE REQUIRING EACH CANDIDATE FOR
CITY OFFICE TO PAY COSTS OF TRANSLATING
CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT INTO THE SPANISH LANGUAGE.
WHEREAS, an amendment was made to the Voting Rights Act of 1965,
Section 203, determining that the County of San Luis Obispo and cities
therein are not required to provide voting materials in the minority
language as of June 25, 1984; and
WHEREAS, the City will assume all costs of preparing and printing
each Candidate's Statement in the English language in the voter's
pamphlet for the General Municipal Election in November, 1984; and
WHEREAS, in addition, each Candidate had the option of having the
Candidate's Statement translated and printed into the Spanish language
in the voter's pamphlet; and
WHEREAS, this Council finds that each Candidate requesting translation
of the Candidate's Statement into Spanish should pay all costs associated
therewi tho
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows:
1. All Candidates for election at the General Municipal Election on
November 6, 1984, who request the printing of their Candidate Statements
jn the Spanish language shall pay all costs of translating, printing,
preparing and publishing the Spanish language statement in the voter's
pamph I et.
2. The City Clerk shall require payment of a deposit for the
costs incurred for such services before authorizing the expenditure of
funds for Spanish translation purposes.
3. The City Clerk shall provide a copy of this Resolution to all
Candidates.

ABSENT: Counci lman Gallagher
