HONORARY PROCLAMATION
IN RECOGNITION OF
RICK BLANKENBURG
WHEREAS, Arroyo Grande is recognizing Rick Blankenburg for his 50 years of continuous
participation in Special Olympics, San Luis Obispo County Region; and
WHEREAS, Dick and Maxine Blankenburg helped bring Special Olympics to San Luis Obispo
County in 1969; and
WHEREAS, their son Rick Blankenburg was one of the first four athletes from San Luis Obispo
County Region to participate in Special Olympics and now more than 700 athletes compete; and
WHEREAS, Rick has continuously participated in Special Olympics for 50 years, starting in
track and field; then gymnastics where he earned a gold medal at the 1987 World Games,
traveled to Ireland in 2003 to complete at the World Games and now competes in team
sports like bocce; and
WHEREAS, Rick will continue competing at the Regional Games on May 3 at Cuesta College.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Caren Ray Russom, Mayor of the City of
Arroyo Grande, on behalf of the City Council, do hereby recognize Rick Blankenburg for his 50
years of dedication to Special Olympics.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the
Seal of the City of Arroyo Grande to be affixed this 14 th day of May 2019.
