HONORARY PROCLAMATION
DECLARINGJULY2019
AS "PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER MONTH"
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation promotes physical, emotional, and mental health and
wellness through organized and self-directed fitness, play, and activity; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation supports the economic vitality of communities by
attracting new businesses, promoting community revitalization, increasing tourism,
providing jobs, and generating revenues; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation creates memorable experiences through engaging
programs, dynamic events, and new opportunities designed to get people involved in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation fosters social cohesiveness in communities by
celebrating diversity, providing inclusive services, modeling compassion, promoting
social equity, connecting social networks, and ensuring all people have access to its
benefits; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation supports human development and endless learning
opportunities that foster social, intellectual, physical and emotional growth in people of
all ages and abilities; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation supports safe, vibrant, attractive, progressive
communities that make life better through positive alternatives offered in their
recreational opportunities; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation
Month; and the California State Legislature recognizes the importance of access to local
parks, trails, open space, and facilities for the health, wellness, _development, inspiration,
and safety of all through the California Park & Recreation Society's "Parks Make Life
Better!" campaign.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Caren Ray Russom, Mayor of the City of Arroyo
Grande, do hereby proclaim July 2019 as "PARKS MAKE LIFE BETTER MONTH" and urge
citizens to use and enjoy its parks, trails, open space, facilities, and recreation
opportunities.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the
Seal of the City of Arroyo Grande to be affixed this 25th day of June 2019.
