RESOLUTION NO. 1735
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE
TO OFFICIALLY SPONSOR A "CARRY THE TORCH" DAY IN JULY, 1984,
DURING WHICH THE OFFICIAL TORCH OF THE GAMES OF THE XXIII
OLYMPIAD WILL BE CARRIED THROUGH ARROYO GRANOE
WHEREAS, 1984 is the year of the Summer Games of the XXI II Olympiad; and
WHEREAS, Arroyo Grande is on the route of the 1984 OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY; and
WHEREAS, the Olympic Torch Flame will be carried from Greece through all
50 States of the United States to its official arrival at the Los Angeles
Coliseum on July 28, 1983; and
WHEREAS, the 1984 Olympic Torch Relay will be the longest run in the
history of the event,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO
GRANDE that the City of Arroyo Grande sha 11 off i ci a I I y sponsor a "Carry the
Torch" Day on that day of July, 1984, during which the official torch of the
Games of the XXI II Olympiad will be carried through Arroyo Grande.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Khatchik H. "Katcho" Achadjian is hereby
appointed as official Chair of all events and activities of the community
during such "Carry the Torch Day" and is empowered to create and appoint such
committees which are necessary to conduct activities and festivities for the
community during such day.
Khatchik Achadjian is to also be empowered to create a
legacy for the young people of Arroyo Grande through the
"Youth Legacy Ki lometer's" Program along the Torch Relay
route in Arroyo Grande.
Such authorization, sponsorships and endorsements by the City
of the organization structure and Carry the Torch Day shall
not result in any financial obligations upon the City of
Arroyo Grande.
On motion of Council Member Vandeveer, seconded by Council Member Hogan
and on the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Vandeveer, Gallagher, Millis, Hogan and Mayor Smith
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 13th day of December 1983.
