R 1669 !~ ---_.-,---_..--- "'"': , r . ,.-./ 15L; I RESOLUTION NO. 1669 I I A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF I ARROYO GRANDE ESTABLISHING MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM COMPENSATION 'BY ADOPTING A SALARY SCHEDULE AND I POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS, ASSIGNING tlTY , EMPLOYEES TO CLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARY STEPS i WITHIN THE RESPECTIVE RANGES OF THE SALARY I SCHEDULE, DESCRIBING METHODS OF ADVANCEMENT AND REPEALING PREVIOUS SALARY RESOLUTIONS THE CITY COUNCIL OF ,THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, this City Council has caused a wage survey to be made of the compensation of Police employees of the City of Arroyo Grande; and WHEREAS, this Council deems It to be to the best Interests of the City of Arroyo Grande and Its Police Employees that minimum and maximum compensation be fixed for various classifications of employment In the Police Department of the City of Arroyo Grande as hereinafter provided. " NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the minimum compensation as I of date of employment and the Intermediate and maximum compensation for such employment shall be as hereinafter set forth and shall be subject to all of the conditions and reservations hereinafter enumerated, effective July I, 1982, and that said Police employees shall be assigned to salary steps within the respective pay range of the position classification as set forth In this resolution, and further, that Exhibit "B" attached hereto Is made a part hereof by reference, and all of which are hereby adopted as follows: ADM I N I STRATI ON OF THE COMPENSATI ON PLAN All Police Department employees entering the employ of the City shall be paid at the first step of the salary range established for their classification. Salary step Increases, as provided herein, are not automatic, but based on performance and merit. Employees shall be placed on the step and qualify for Increase in compensation or advancement to the next higher step of the pay ranges In the manner following: I I. Non-sworn PolIce employees may qualify for advancement to the second step, after completion of six months service, upon the the recommendation of the department head and approval by I the City Administrator. For sworn police officers, a one i year period of service is required. " 2. Employees may qualify for advancement to the third step, after the completion of one year of service in step two, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator. 3. Employees may qualify for advancement to the fourth step, after the completion of one year of service at the third step, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator. 4. Employees may qualify for advancement to the fifth step, after completion of one year of service in step four, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator. - ... ^J' .. . ..../ 155 , . 5. a. Employees may q4alify for advancement of one salary range above their position classified range upon receipt of an Associated Arts Degree in a field relative to their police Job classification, from an accredited Junior College or College, upon recOlllllendatlon of the department head and approval by the City Administrator. b. Employees may qualify for advancement of two salary ranges above their position classified range, upon receipt of a Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts Degree In a field relative to their police Job classification, from an accredited College, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator. c. Exceptions: Where Job classifications or requirements Include an Associated Arts or Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts Degree, (Including City Administration and alt department heads within the service of the City), Section Sa. and Section 5b. above wilt not apply. 6. A performance report on each employee recommended for advancement shall be submitted to the City Administrator and Council representative prior to final action on such recanmendatlon.
