CC 2020-08-11 Items Recd at MtgFrom:Rwrussom To:public comment Subject:Election cancellation comments Date:Tuesday, August 11, 2020 4:15:26 PM Mayor and city council, Deadlines have meaning. We don’t reward people for missing tests or turning in their homework late. The question of cancelling the election is coming before you. With that comes the choice of saving significant money, which could do things like help fund parks and rec cuts, or continue participating in the election when there are no candidates over than the three sitting incumbents. This should not even be a question in anyone’s mind. You may have some suggesting that you are taking away their right to vote. Some may suggest because a potential candidate opted to not run, somehow this changes things. It does not. Anyone and everyone had the chance to simply gather 20 signatures, fill out the paperwork and make the filing by the deadline. The barrior for participation is extremely low, yet this simply was not done. We cannot reward laziness or Monday morning quarterbacking by a few at the expense to the many. I urge you to do what you were elected to do; stand up and make the hard decisions. The deadline to file papers has passed and the deadlines are there for a reason. Members of the community would like to see the 28 thousand dollars spent on Parks and Rec, streets, sidewalks or save it for a rainy day. As our current local leaders, please follow the rules of the deadline and do not waste tax payers dollars on a write-in campaign. Sincerely, Billy Binns From:kenneth price To:public comment Subject:special election Date:Tuesday, August 11, 2020 4:38:47 PM I see no need for a special election as I feel very strongly that our city is being run very well in all regards. It seems there are a few disgruntled citizens that want to spend our money in a very unnecessary way. I have lived here for 15 years and have never been unhappy with the city council. We do not need a special election. Kenneth Price
