RESOLUTION NO. 1491
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE OPPOSING THE INCREASE
IN PRISONER CAPACITY AT THE PRISON FACILITY
OF THE CALIFORNIA CO~RECTIONAL SYSTEM AT
SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA
WHEREAS, the California Men's Colony at San Luis Obispo,
California, receives between 100 and 150 inmates weekley from throughout
the state; and
WHEREAS, only 1% of the inmates come from San Luis Obispo and
Santa Barbara counties, while approximately 80% are from Los Angeles
County; and
,. WHEREAS, approximatel.y 140 inmates are parolled ann~ally in
San Luis Obispo County and40.to 50% of the parolees violate and return
to the facility within 16 months from the date of release; and

WHEREAS, San Luis Obispo Police Departments records reflect an
average of .~ felonies per month that are committed by parolees from
the Men "s Colony; and
WHEREAS, more prison space is needed, but San Luis Obispo County
presently has more State institutions than any other County in the State;
and
WHEREAS, the parolees and escapees from these institutions add I

to the County's serious crime problems and to expand the facilities will !
increase the present problems.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Arroyo Grande is opposed to increasing prisoner capacity at the
California Men's Colony, San Luis Obispo, California.
On motion of Council Member Vandeveer, seconded by Council Member
Hogan, and on the foHowing ,roTl call vote, to wit:

ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 11th of August, 1981.
