RESOLUTION NO. 1376
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO
, GRANDE RENAMING THE "ELM STREET SPORTS COMPLEX" TO
, *** IISOTO SPORTS COMPLEX" ***
WHEREAS, it has been established by Resolution No. 735 that the Parks and
Recreation Commission will recommend names for City Parks to the City Council for
Its approval and adoption; and
:1 WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Commission has considered names to be
used for identification of certain park areas in the City of Arroyo Grande and
has recommended that the "Elm Street Sports Complex" be renamed "SOTO SPORTS
! COMPLEX" and be approved and adopted by the City Counc II; and

I r WHEREAS, GEE GEE SOTO was Instrumental In bringing together suc:h"Communlty
, organizations as Babe Ruth, Littie League, Girls' Softball,. Youth Soccer, Youth
i Football, the Tennis Club and the Swim Club, to form the Sports Associates; and
,
WHEREAS, with GEE GEE leading the way, the Associates have gone to the
I Parks and Recreation Commission and to the City Council and have changed the
. proposed General Plan for the park area; they have sold billboard advertisements;
.retained a local engineer to donate his services; and have started excavation and
grading of the land for the play fIelds; and
WHEREAS, at this time, the City of Arroyo Grande wishes to recognize and
commend GEE GEE SOTO for her tire I es.s efforts and hard work. She has been the
driving force and energy behind all of the work that has been accomplished to date;
and
WHEREAS, the City wi shes. to thank her for a II of the va I unteer hours, the !'
many meetings, and the patience that she has had over the past year. I
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY ot ARROYO GRANDE DOES I
HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: I
That the area presently known as the "Elm Street Sports Complex", located
on Ash Street at Elm Street, be and Is hereby officially renamed "SOTO SPORTS ,
COMPLEX", in honor of GEE GEE SOTO for her years of participation and dedication Ii
to the community's youth programs. i
On motion of Council Member de Leon, seconded by Council Member Smith
and on the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: CouncIl Members Gallagher, de Leon, Smith and Mayor Millis
NOES: Council Member Pope
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 28th day of August, 1979.
