R 1069 ., ,.. RESOLUTION NO, 106L . A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE ESTABLISHING MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM COMPENSATION FOR POLICE OFFICERS BY ADOPTING A SALARY SCHEDULE AND POSITION CLASSIFICA- TIONS, ASSIGNING CITY EMPLOYEES TO CLASSIFICATIONS AND SALARY STEPS WITHIN THE RESPECTIVE RANGES OF THE SALARY SCHEDULE AND DESCRIBING METHODS OF ADVANCEMENT AND REPEALING PREVIOUS SALARY RESOLUTIONS RELATING TO POLICE OFFICERS. THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: WHEREAS, the City Council has caused a wage survey to be made of the compensation of police officers of the City of Arroyo Grande; and WHEREAS, this Council deems it to be in the best interests of the City of Arroyo Grande and its police officers that minimum and maximum compensation be, fixed for various classifications of employment in the poace department of the City of Arroyo Gr'lnde as hereinaft.er provided; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED tha t the minim1lI!l comp",nsa tion as of da te . of employment and the intermediate and maximum compensation fcr such employment , shall be as hereinafter set forth and shall be subject to all of the conditions and reservations hereinafter en.umerated, effective September 15, 1973, and that said police officers shall be assigned to salary steps within the respective pay range of the position classification as set forth in the City of Arroyo Grande Schedule of Salary Ranges specified in Resolution No, 1046 adopted on the 26th day of June, 1973, LIST OF CLASSES 1973-74 POLICE CLASSES RANGE NUMBER Lieutenant 60 Police Sergeant 56 Police Patrolman 51 ADMINISTRATION OF THE COMPENSATION PLAN .. All officers entering the employ of the City shall be paid at the first step of the salary range established for their classification. Salary step, increases, as provided for herein, are not automatic, but based on performance and merit, Officers shall be placed on the step and qualify for increase in compensation or advancement to the next higher step of the pay ranges in the manner following: 1, Officers may qualify for advancement to the second step, after completion of one year service, upon the recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator, 2, Officers may qualify for advancement to the third step, after the completion of one year of service in Step Two, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator, 3, Officers may qualify for advancement to the fourth step, after the completion of one year service at the third step, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator, 4, Officers may qlialify for advancement to ,the fifth step, after completion of one year of service in Step Four, upon recommendation of the department head and approval by the City Administrator, S. a, Officers may qualify for advancement of one salary range above their position classified range upon receipt of an Intermediate POST Certificate or an Associated Arts Degree in a field relative to their job classification, from an accredited junior college or college, upon recommendation of the depart., ment head and approval by the City Administrator. b. Officers may qualify for advancement of bio sulary ranges above their position classified range, upon rect!ipt of an Advanced POST Certificate, or a Bachelor of Scit!nce/Bachelor of Arts Degree in a field relative to their job classification from an accredited college, upon reco!mllendation of the departli,ent 'head and approval by the City Administrator. (l0/73) . c. Exceptions: Wh~re job classifications or requirements include an Associated Arts or Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts Degree~ Se.ction 5.a. and Section S.b. above will not apply. 6. A performance report on each employee recommend~d for advancement shall be submitted to the City Administrator and Council representative prior to final action on such recommendation.
