R 0909 . - L,,,OLUTION NO. 909 "- A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE RECOGNIZING REGIONAL ADVISORY BOARD OF REGION VIII (south) AS THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM PLANNING AGENCY WITHIN THE TERRITORY GENERALLY DESCRIBED AS SAN LUIS OBISPO AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES. WHEREAS the 90th Congress of the United States of America adopted legislation known as the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Street Act of 1968 (PL 90-351) which makes certain Federal funda ava:!.l"tle t'J' a1.1 level~ "r: local gOller:ir<>1a.1,t; to assls!: them in their efforts to cope with t.he iu"rease in crim(O and to impnwe 1111 f.\<nct- icr-.~ of the criminal justice system; a.nd WHEREAS the California Council on Criminal Justice has been designated a8 the agency to provide the leadership and direction as to the administrat.i~ and distribution of these Federal funds re''''1.ved by the State of CalU'o:rD.ia; /.Iud WHEREAS the Cali.fornh Council ,~n Criminal JEsti,,€! has divided the states into specific regions l.n ordf)r that local levels of government might. effectively participate in comprehensi.ve planning to meet the objectives of t.he Oml!.:i.bus Crime Control and Safe Street Act and the counties of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara were officially designat~d Region VIII (South); and WHEREAS the California COUT1.,;il on Cri.mim\I Just:!.ce receives Federal funds as a block grant, it distributes those. funds to local governments based on the needs of specific areas and upon the merits of projects and proposals prepared and submitted to the state by criminal justice agencies within each of the vari- ous state regions; and WHEREAS Region VIII (south) can most effectively participate in the program as initiated and supervised by the Califol~liaCcuncil on Criminal Just.ice by actively engaging in planning for the f\lture and in developing special plans and programs designed to effectively curb crime and to improve the tot.al spectrum of criminal justice as it is peculiar to our area; and WHEREAS to effectively implement and efficiently operate such a program, members and staff of the entity known as the Central Coast Criminal Justice Regional Advisory Board (Region VIII South) needs the full support and assistance of all city councils, all boards of supervisors and other interested government and civic agencies within the Region: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED: . The City Council of the City of Arroyo Grande, California hereby officially recognizes the Regional Advisory Board (Region VIII south) as the official planning agency for the California Council on Criminal Justice in all matters pertaining to the fight against. crime and toward improving the criminal justice system under the auspicies of PL 90-351 as interpreted and administered by the California Council on Criminal Justice.
