RESOLUTION NO. 773
RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ARROYO GRANDE REGARDING
ISSUANCE OF UNITED STATES COMMEMORATIVE POSTAGE
STAMPS.
WHEREAS, the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the State of
California will be celebrated in 1969; and
WHEREAS, an event of such importance to the State of California
should be memorialized in the issuance of a commemorative United States
postage stamp; and
WHEREAS, the United States Post Office Department receives each
year numerous requests for commemorative issues; and
WHEREAS, a favorable response to a request for a stamp commemora-
ting the 200th Anniversary of the founding of the State of California
could best be obtained by one single effort in which all interested
cities and counties of the State of California could join; and
WHEREAS, such an effort will be made late in December, 1967, in a
p~esentation to be made by the Commemorative Stamp and Philatelic Exhibit
Committee of San Diego's 200th Anniversary, Inc.;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Arroyo
Grande as follows:
1. That the City of Arroyo Grande supports the concept of the is-
suance in 1969 of a United States postage stamp commemorating the 200th
Annive~sary of the founding of the State of California.
2. That the City Clerk of the City of Arroyo Grande is directed
to forward a copy of this Resolution to the City Clerk of the City of
San Diego 50 that it may be included in the presentation to be made to
the United States Post Office Department by San Diego's local committee
to the end th~t the wholehearted support of the various agencies in the
State to the concept of a California commemorative stamp may be demon-
strated.
On motion of Councilwoman Thompson, seconded by Councilman Levine,
and on the following roll call vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilwoman Thompson, Councilmen Levine, Schlegel, Burt
and Mayor Wood.
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
the foregoing Resolution was passed and adopted this 28th day of
November, 1967.
